The City of Melbourne is a cosmopolitan city with a multicultural population of over 3 million people.  Melbourne is a relatively safe and friendly place to live and the cost of living is low compared to large cities of other English-speaking countries like Britain or the United States.

The city and surroundings has many places to visit and things to see.  The city has a staggering choice of restaurants, funky boutiques, laneways filled with cafes, bars, music venues, luscious parks and cute inner-city suburbs. Melbourne prides itself on its love of sport (Australian Rules football in particular); quirky and interesting fashion; widely accessible public transport system and a calendar filled all year-round with festivals. 

Weather
Melbourne’s weather is often unpredictable and is known to commonly display four seasons in one day. Summer is from December to February with temperatures between 24 to 35 degrees Celsius and w inter is June to August with cool temperatures between 10 to 16 degrees Celsius.

Transport
Melbourne has an excellent public transport system with trams, trains and buses travelling on an extensive network and frequent timetable throughout the city and inner and outer suburbs of Melbourne.  A daily ticket to travel within the inner suburbs of Melbourne costs around AU$6.

Activities and Sight-Seeing
Melbourne is Australia’s arts and entertainment capital so there are always plenty of things to do in your spare time.  The city has a large range of theatre venues and is host to festivals celebrating film, comedy, jazz, food, wine and more.

For the budget-conscious, you can often find free entertainment in the city such as free art exhibitions, shows or festivals.
